Family Attractions at Mayor Thames Festival 2013

One of the biggest outdoor arts festivals in London, Mayor Thames Festival is the biggest event focusing on river Thames. It is also the biggest family friendly festival of the city with a number of arts events, theatre, circus, and fantastic fireworks lined up to entertain you and your kids alike. The festival commissions high-profile art events all related to the Thames River. The legendary illuminated Night Carnival takes place on Sunday evening when over 2,000 performers gather at the Victoria Embankment with crackers lighting up the night.

Mayor Thames Festival 2013
This year the festival has been extended to 10 days instead of its earlier duration of 2 days. There would be a number of educational and musical events as well so that your kids remain engrossed in the event. The major family events at this festival would be:

1513: A Ships’ Opera by Richard Wilson and Zatorski + Zatorski

Approx Timing: 7.45 pm
Get vowed by the armada of historic vessels since the sailing started in human history. A stupendous water-borne performance at Thames with operatic lights and sound concerto of different ships adding abandon to the ambience is the specific feature.

Kids’ Choir - Voyages of Discovery

Date: 15 September 2013
Approx Timing: 1 pm – 2 pm
What can thrill kids better than a 600-plus kids’ choir performing at the docks of Thames? Led by Jonathan Pix, the choir would be inspired by the maritime history of this historic river. School children from over 60 London schools would participate in the performance.

The Great River Race
Date: 7 September 2013
Approx Timing: From 10.40 am
A river marathon which is as exciting as it sounds. Over 300 crews from round the world would be participating in the race with a 21 miles course waiting for them. The race starts from Millwall Dock Slipway, London Docklands, at 10.40am and finishes at Ham House. The winner of the race wins the coveted Challenge Trophy of The Company of Watermen & Lightermen of The River Thames.
